New BMW Owner, Blank Slate

lundi 31 mars 2014

I just purchased my first BMW, a 2009 BMW 335i X-Drive! It's a blank slate, no mods whatsoever.

If you had it to do over again, or to do at all, what would be the first couple performance mods you'd do to a stock car. I don't want to jump ahead to something that should be done 10th, etc.

Also, don't want to waste my money on mods that don't work, or work very little.

Thanks guys!

Velgen VMB5 Tire Size Recommendation

Hey guys, looking for some help from the group. Just got some Velgen VMB5 19" rims (F: 19x9 +35, R: 19x10.5 +45).

Trying to decide what tire sizes to go with. Debating between 245/35/19 + 275/30/19 or 245/40/19 + 275/35/19.

My car is a f30 328i lowered on H&R sport springs. A part of me wants the larger profile tires to minimize wheel gap, but I'm unsure if it'll cause rubbing. Plus I haven't seen many pics with that slightly larger profile.

What do you guys think?

Thanks in advance!

Selling a Corsa performance catback exhaust for a E90 M3 that is in great condition. One season of use. Sounds amazing! No drone!

You can look up "corsa exhaust m3" on YouTube to hear how it sounds. Best sounding exhaust for the e90/e92 M3 IMO. Other exhausts I've heard had so much drove and sounded raspy. This one sounds perfect. Get many compliments on the sound.

Sun Visor Not long enough to keep out sun glare

Hi, I have an X1 35i. I am wondering if anyone besides me has experienced the sun visor not long enough to keep out sun glare during early morning sun rise and sun fall. I do realize that I can raise the seat to sit higher however I prefer to sit further down and it does not help that I am only 5"6". So far I cannot find any 3rd party clip on that will extend down a couple more inches past the visor. I actually created my own sun visor cover that extends down providing another 2" of sun glare protection and it works so well that driving into the sun is no longer a problem. It is the same color however I wish it looked more original.

Crevice cleaning ideas?

Can anyone give advice on how to get the crevices clean in my seats? I have tried my home vacuum with a 'crevice' attachment. It does get some of the stuff on the side crevices.... but the stuff in the back seat does not vacuum out. I might try to tape up 1/2 the hole to make it even higher pressure, but I think it might need some physical manipulation to loosen it.

I bought this 'fan brush' and thought it would help... almost a complete fail... it got very little movement and doesn't seem to be loosening the stuck stuff. ...and the brush is actually quite a bit smaller; widest part of the bristles is about 1 inch wide.

I'm looking for ideas or suggestions. I don't want to go buy a new vacuum. I have more time than money... that's for sure. I'm leery to 'scratch' stuff out my leather seats.

can over-due oil change cause engine light?

started slowly (once or twice per month), but now my CEL/limp mode is becoming a daily thing. when i re-start the car, it disappears but it comes back quite rapidly.

obviously i don't know what the error is yet, but when checing my vehicle status, it says "Service overdue" and highlights that my engine oil and brake fluid are past their expiration date.

so, the question is, could this cause the car into limp mode?

I do have the JB4 and the BMW intake, other than that completely stock. 41,000 miles on the clock. With the JB4 i opted for the USB cable, so i imagine i can connect to my laptop and see what the errors are?

anyone that can comment on this i would much appreciate it!

Lost power to the Idrive controller

Im not sure where this post should go but I lost power to my idrive controller. I'm not sure if anyone else has had this happen. Any tips would be appreciated.

I was told that is has a constant power source and that it should have power when my lights are on, but I'm not getting any power to it at all. I just had the Alpine B3 transmission programing done to the car if that helps with anything. I dont think that could cause it to lose power and I haven't done anything else to the car. It is a 2011 335i Xdrive coupe.

Thanks

Not getting the 360 camera was a false economy

Managed to catch the angled edge of my front bumper trying to pull out of a space I'd been hemmed in to... stupid parking sensors go red/constant with like 30cm to spare and I misjudged it by less than a cm, taking the paint off my front bumper. I think it'll be a respray job. :( The banged up car that had hemmed me in looked undamaged, of course.

Wish I'd gotten the 360 degree cameras - you only need one scratch like this for them to have been worthwhile! The rear camera lets me back up with precision of a fraction of a cm.

Az Riz - E92 Progress Thread

I thought it was about time to start my progress thread now that the weather is clearing up and my parts have started arriving. Every weekend in March and April has been scheduled for further progress on the car in order to get her looking how I would like. It’s coming along well, I think.

I have ventured over from the VAG community after owning a Golf GTI MK4 for the last 6 years. It was heavily modified and is an absolute pleasure to drive. Running 300bhp (rebuilt engine with forged internals, high-flow tubular exhaust manifold and a bigger turbo etc etc), with Porsche brakes and very stiff coilover setup, it’s one hell of a blast to drive hard. I knew I’d never be Ok with selling it so it is currently sitting quietly in a secret underground location( ;) ), waiting to be brought back out when I am able to. Pics of her in Post 3.

Here are a few shots of the E92 as she currently looks in stock form:

Replacing CCV

Hi everyone,

I Need to change the ccv in my 320i and was wondering if anyone had any tips.

Any help will be much appreciated.

M135i aftermarket mods and results

Just realised I'd been rather remiss and not actually posted any of the results from my tinkering with my 2013 N55 M135i...

So in short I will say that the car was dyno'd at Surrey Rolling Road in the UK along with several other 1-series cars a couple of weeks ago. They use a Dyno Dynamics RR in shoot-out mode and this is usually a very stern and honest piece of kit.

The standard M135i's (and those with BMWMP exhausts) made the correct and expected numbers of around 325hp, 330 ftlb

I was very happy to achieve a rather better than expected 394 hp and 450 ftlb :happyanim:

Performance mods on my car (so far) are a BMS JB4 running Map 2, full Scorpion decat downpipe and exhaust system, Forge Motorsports intercooler and BOV, Birds/Quaife ATB diff

As you can see, there aren't that many mods on the list so far and I have several more in the pipeline -including a Forge charge pipe, Forge intake and then the addition of water/meth injection should hopefully see me over the 400 mark,,,

Lock/Unlock not working

The Lock and Unlock button in my car has stopped working. Has this happened to anyone? It doesn't feel like the button is stuck or broken, so I assume it's an electrical problem.

Any advice on how to fix it?

Need to make decision today! Ordering f30

Whats up guys I come to you for thoughts..coming from e92, e90, ive finally decided im def going with f30...im doing 328 AW on Coral..6mt lighting and prem..(im not getting xdrive this time around) . its a dd and more than enough for me. my problem is im stuck between sport line or M. I love the front of the regular sport..back is fine too..but i will spend the money on getting wider tires...I even like the rims styling better too..M sport has that bad ass steering wheel..and comes with 255 in back already...so cost isnt the factor here because at end of day with purchasing tires itll be about $500 difference...btw you guys have been a great source for all my BMW questions the last few years...ill miss the hydraulic sterring quite a bit but I figure from what im seeing the better tires should resolve most of it...what are your thoughts..

Any TrueCar experience?

Hello Everyone,

I'm in the hunt for a 328ix. I came across TrueCar buying service on the edmunds.com site. Has anyone used them?

As best I can tell. You spec a vehicle and then they send you 3 "price certificates" for dealers within 40 miles. Prices are $500 above invoice less current $$2,000 incentives. This works out to ~12% under MSRP.

Thanks for your feedback!

Any reports on used WPC treated bearings?

Seems like the majority of those replacing their rod bearings are getting the WPC treatment, but have any WPC bearings come back out to see how they actually look X number of miles down the road? Just curious if there is any quantitative support behind the process and whether it actually helps the S65. Searched but couldn't find anything, though I'm sure someone will provide a link 5 seconds after I post this. :D

Hey everybody so my engine light turned on today when I started the car. I had drove it earlier and nothing and then at start up just turned on and never turned off again. Plugging in my laptop and got these 2 codes :

M1 M2 buttons explained

dimanche 30 mars 2014

I found this video to be pretty helpful to explain the different buttons and settings that are available. Though it's for the M5, it seems pretty close to the M3/4 set-up apart from the location of the e-brake and look of the drivelogic button. I'm not too excited about needing to push the M button twice - once to select and twice to confirm - when you need to wake the car up from its soft comfort setting slumber. Will this be the same for us?

Pirelli Slicks (275-18)

I have 3 sets of Pirelli World-Challenge slicks I've been saving for my E90 M3 race car. I will be running a different tire this year so the Pirelli slicks are for sale for $75 each.

All the tires are 275-645-18 which works out to 275-35-18. If a 275-35-18 fits on your car, these will too.

These tires all have either 1 or 2 heat-cycles on them and they have been stored in my garage.

There are 5 wear holes in 4 location across the tread. These tires are showing at least 4 of the wear holes in each location.

These tires are very fast and offer a lot of mechanical grip. When I switched to these tires last year, I was 6 seconds a lap faster then the DOT tires I normally run.

New, these tires are $530 each...

http://ift.tt/1gSkQvR

I will sell them for $75 each. That is a deal - but I do not want to ship them. Buying used tires through the mail is difficult because you can't see the item and they cost of shipping is such a high percentage of the item itself.

Please let me know if you have any questions. I work at home so the tires are avail for viewing most any time or day.

Thanks for your interest.
