Lilly Automotive

mardi 2 décembre 2014

I want to post this in a separate thread to show my appreciation for Daniel at Lilly Automotive.

My water pump died Weds night before thanksgiving. (54,000 miles with absolutely no warning). I had my car towed back to my house and contacted Dan on Friday morning. He suggested that we order parts from ECS or similar to save me a few bucks from the dealer, but ultimately my choice as it would take a few more days to get the parts shipped. Ended up ordering from ECS with a two day delivery which had an ETA of today.

Daniel called me at 7PM last night to inform me the parts came in early and said he could come to my place immediately as he knew I was without a car.

I said lets do it and he got to my place around 9PM to get started - replacing water pump/tsat/ and my inner fender Dinan CAI filter.

What a professional. Daniel did an awesome job and treated my car as if it was his own. All said and done he was here until almost 1AM making sure I was ready to go.

I would not hesitate to recommend him to anyone in this area for any sort of maintenance or aftermarket parts installation. I know I will be using Lilly Automotive for all my maintenance work going forward and recommending him to all my friends to do the same.

Thanks again Daniel!

Ipod 'Y' cable

Hi all

Its been suggested by a car audio shop that the official BMW Y cable provides a cleaner signal to the i-Drive and hence a better sound, then the regular white apple USB jobbie.

Reason I ask is that virtually every day my iPod magically disconnects from the iDrive for no apparent reason, and the only way to reconnect is to reboot either the iDrive or the iPod. Using the apple cable.

So, does anyone know if there is any truth in my first paragraph above? and also if the Y cable carries album art on a 2011 with the USB in the front armrest?

finally do you reckon it might fix the iPod disconnecting issue?

cheers in anticipation of any help!

Cruise control retrofit - your advice/experience

Guys,

I made a huge mistake by not including cruise control among my f20's factory options. The multifunction wheel has the LIM button so I am told that a retrofitted cruise may be possible.

Here are the components to it: the part, the coding and the work needed.

Cruise control part: I have found the piece on eBay for 200 Euro. My official BMW dealer can also order it for 200 Euro.

Coding: I have asked a "remote coder" (someone who connects to your car remotely though a windows laptop and internet) and his price is fair (50 Euro). My dealer asks 250 Euro for the coding (!!).

Work: I have found a guy who knows how to intall the part it but he's hesitant about the coding (he does not know how to use e-sys but he says there is other software). My dealer will ask some 200 Euro (!)

The problem here is that NOONE knows if the coding will work or not. Not even my dealer, who is told by the electrician that "the car must be left coding all night". The remote coder says it can activate it easily, but he cannot guarantee it will work. The guy at the garage says he can try but has never coded a F20 before.

What is your experience in coding it? is it done with the touch of a button or does it require leaving the car coding for several hours?

I would appreciate your advice/experience.

Wiper Issue

Have an issue with the wipers where they squeak pretty badly if the windscreen is only lightly wet - goes away with heavy rain or for a brief period after using the windscreen wiper fluid. It's been in for service a couple of times to no avail - any suggestions?

Essex Turbos

Hi all

Has any one had any experience with Essex Turbos? I bought a turbo for my E90 recently and my Indy reckons its faulty as its still whistling....what are ET like for customer service and returns etc?

I'm currently waiting on ET to pick up the turbo from the Indy and then hopefully they will replace it...

Questions about Test Pipes- Yes, I searched

lundi 1 décembre 2014

Well the mod bug has hit hard, and I'm trying to resist. Here goes

1. Is it possible to clamp back on your primary cats for emissions testing after they've been cut out? Seems like the test pipes fit over the oem piping, but was just wondering if the original piping can be lined back up, and joined with a clamp without welding. Anyone done this successfully?

2. Rear O2 spacers looks like they work on our platform, with a guy claiming 4K miles before cell thrown on a catless setup. Anyone tried this?
