An old Volvo 740 parked next to my F31 yesterday. I used to think the 740 was massive - the size of a hearse - bit it isn't much bigger than the F31! There could only have been a few cm in it. Shows you how much cars have grown in size in the past 20 years.
What was really incredible was the glass to bodywork proportions. Modern cars have a high shoulder line which leads to narrow glass predominantly due to pedestrian crash legislation as the bonnet has to have a certain space above the engine. This moves everything upwards.
On the 740, there was much more glass. In fact, next to the F31 the glass went as far down as the wheel arches on the 3 series and the handles even lower!
Anyway, that's my dull piece of info for the day!
