E60 coding

I am sure there is a bunch of posts like this some place I just can seem to find them I have a 2010 e60 body with the new idrive system my buddy could not code my car that has a 2012 5 series cable fit fine just software didn't recognize my car I assume it's the software is different for my car can someone tell me if that would be accurate ? If so how do I get what i need to code my car
