Anyone replaced front half shafts on an XI

Looking for any tips if anyone has replaced the driveshafts on the front of an e9x XI. Im planning on replacing struts and control arms as well and am wondering if i can remove the axle mounted on the spindle as an assembly and just pound the old axleshaft out from the outside once removed as an assembly from the car. Or would i really need an 3 jaw puller?
