So, my Cambridge Audio DacMagic 100 has been ordered. Not sure how I want to do the iPad Mini / second monitor (where factory nav screen is) configuration yet, so i'm just going to use my iPhone 5s for signal for the time being. Using the Airport Extreme that I already have laying around that isn't being used, along with my apple TV that is also just collecting dust, I will mount the Dac, Airport Extreme, and Apple TV in the trunk. I just tested this out in my bedroom for functionality. There was a lot of talk on various forums about cell service not being available while you're connected to a wireless network for use of AirPlay. I followed simple directions on how to properly setup the router and how to properly set up the wifi network on the phone manually so that cell service works while still being connected to the wifi network. Works as expected. Now, I realize that the Airport Extreme is bulky and that the Airport Express is smaller and wouldn't require the use of the apple tv, but this is what I have laying around.
So, it'll be Apple TV to DacMagic 100 via Toslink. From the Dac it'll temporarily be on to the Helix A4 amp powering my 3-way front stage passively until I get a new DSP ( then it'll be from Dac to DSP to 2 Helix A4's for the fully active setup).
Why AirPlay? Because it's a wireless way to transmit the music stream without being compressed, unlike bluetooth. AirPlay uses Apple Lossless for transmission.
