The Dallas Cowboys haven't won a Super Bowl in a long time, but they're an unstoppable dynasty in one important competition: franchise value.

Nobody comes close to the Cowboys in terms of how much money they're worth. Not among NFL teams, and not among any sports team in the world. Jerry Jones' Dallas Cowboys are worth $4 billion, according to Forbes' latest list. That's almost $750 million more than any other sports team in the world. Real Madrid came in second at $3.26 billion, according to Forbes. The New England Patriots are second among NFL teams and tied for third with the New York Yankees among all sports teams, at $3.2 billion. Last year the Cowboys generated $620 million in revenue, a record for a U.S. sports team, Forbes said. The Cowboys haven't won a championship on the field since the 1995 season, but Dallas has been the top NFL team on Forbes' franchise value list for nine straight years.

So make fun of Jones all you wish, but he's winning on the scoreboard a lot of owners care deeply about. And it's an absolute blowout victory, too!

And despite all the negative publicity for the NFL in the last calendar year, the league is growing at a rate that any business would love. The values of NFL franchises grew a fairly incredible 38 percent in the last year, Forbes said. The average franchise is worth $1.97 billion. The San Francisco 49ers grew an incredible 69 percent (yeah, what a terrible offseason) because of their move into Levi's Stadium, Forbes reported. Every team got a $39 million bump in national revenue in the past year, Forbes said. The NFL is moving like a tremendous machine, as the most popular league in American sports history.

The best example of the NFL's earning ability might not even be the Cowboys, but the Washington Redskins. Washington plays in a mediocre stadium in Landover, Md. that it wants to replace after less than 20 years, have been to the playoffs just three times this century with just one postseason win and is widely viewed as a running joke because of the antics of owner Daniel Snyder. And yet Washington ranks third in the NFL with a value of $2.85 billion.

Keep that in mind when you hear about what bad shape Washington's franchise is in. It's still winning at the bank.

And keep in mind... Jerry Jones purchased the franchise and team in the late 80's for a paltry $180M
