Ive done some searching around the forums and on the web although I cannot seem to get a solid answer to my question.
Im looking at buying another set of rims for my X3 and want to keep the 17 x 8 dimensions like stock (since I have a pretty new set of tires that I can put on and avoid buying new tires should I go with a different size rim).
The question I have been searching for is what are the ranges of offset appropriate for our vehicles? I know the stock wheels have an offset of 46mm.
Most aftermarket wheels are in the 35mm et range and Im concerned about two aspects:
1) Will the increased offset affect handling and wear characteristics on other components of the suspension (that's an increase of 11mm outboard from the stock wheel)
2) Will the shift in offset push the wheel out to the edge of the car that it looks funny?
I dont mind a few mm off in offset since the effects would probably be marginal but with that much increase I suspect something will give? Id be ok with a 40 mm offset but who thinks 35et is acceptable because I can tell you..... the world of aftermarket wheels favor the lower offsets.
Thanks for any info.
