EU Warranty Extension of +1-4 years - thoughts?

jeudi 3 avril 2014

I have an EU F30 328i which came with 2 years of EU-wide manufacturer warranty (a ridiculously low one, if you ask me). As the warranty is about to expire in some weeks, the dealership offered me a list of options to choose my preferred warranty extension package, if any. All options here would mean the exact same manufacturer warranty guarantees and same terms as I'd been having in the first 2 years of ownership.

My car is currently in perfect condition (had a couple of warranty fixes though in the past), was only serviced by the same dealership and has a really low run with about 11500 miles alltogether in the last 2 years). The cheapest option would be to extend the manufacturer's warranty to +1 additional year from now for about $320, +2 years for $1200, +3 years for $1600 or +4 years for $2600.

My first thought is that this car is a premium product with a really low current mileage and I'm generally against paying in advance to avoid potential risks later on. An other thought is that some statistics about typical F30 problems raising in the first 3-4 years would help a lot coming up with the best answer for this question..

Any thought, insights? Thanks!
