Test drove a 420d M Sport Gran Coupe yesterday. Loved it. It was de-badged and i forgot to ask whether it was the RWD or xdrive (I knew they had one of each available). I did guess correctly that was RWD although not easy. Tried to make it swing out a bit and didn't budge - was a dry day and i must say i was VERY impressed by handling. I did feel that the suspension (non-adaptive) felt a little tighter than my 320i M Sport xdrive however which made me think it was RWD. Overall I must admit though that i liked the power delivery in my 2 litre petrol a little more than the 2 litre diesel. Felt the diesel torque a bit more from take-off but at motorway speed with the 8AT I felt that the petrol kicks down a little more freely.
After my hour long spin I went back to the dealer and said i was interested in driving a car with the 3 litre diesel. Just so happened they had a 330d M Sport just returned and which was about to be decommissioned so they handed me the keys and told me to take it for a few hours. Wow, what an engine. Quiet and silky smooth and very docile in traffic in eco mode - then when you're on the open road there's such a huge shove of torque. Very impressed.
Will make the next decision difficult I think!
