Given the advantage of the electric/hybrid drivetrain, this looks to be the future of the automobile. I really wish BMW can bring this drivetrain down to regular cars, like say combining the turbo 4 or 6 with a battery and electric motor to achieve greater fuel efficiency and superior performance.
When do you think this will happen? I wonder why it hasn't happened yet... are they still testing reliability? Is cost the primary issue? I would think many would gladly pay a reasonable premium for greater efficiency and superior performance like we see in the i8. Of course if it costs a whole lot more, that wouldn't work... but I wonder how much of the i8's cost is in the drive train vs the car's body/design and materials.
