Hey guys so I think I feel like I've hit rock bottom on my E90. Yesterday my car had to be towed to a mechanic due to transmission problems (car won't go into drive or reverse). Ive been told that I may need a new transmission and we all know that its not going to be a cheap fix. That being said I'm looking for a back up plan and I'm considering selling the car and replacing it for something else. Im probably going to only need a car for another 1 1/2 or 2 years so I was thinking i'd get something cheap and at the same time something I really want.
Im not sure if many members here are familiar with Jaguars but Im looking to get a 2003 Jaguar XJR. theres one for sale at a Jag dealership for 89.000 miles under 10k. Its has supercharged 370 BHP V8 thats in Black color (sinister) and . as far as reliability I'm not too concerned since back home (overseas) I drive a older Jaguar XJ6 and for almost the past 2 decades the old girl has been trouble free and has been a joy to drive. I'm not really worried about the milage too much since these girls can take up miles and being that its a XJR and sold in a Jag dealer I feel like the previous owner may have been older and took care of the car well (my quick prediction) I really want to keep the family Jaguar tradition since we are going to part with her soon and since Im gonna only be here for 1-2 yeas I may consider this option. My other option is a 1988 Mercedes SEC560 coupe (W126) for around 7k with 50.000 miles. I absolutely love this car and again reliability not too worried (they are pretty much like Tiger tanks) which is a bad example since tigers were notoriously unreliable just leave it as Tanks go shermans! also my uncle used own a W126 sedan and till around 140.000km and sold it a buyer in Germany due to its immaculate state. As you can probably tell I'm into older large luxury cars, thats my passion especially older british cars. I bought my E90 since I wanted something newer at the same time reliable and also something good to drive with. Im fairly young (in my early 20s) but I know the Jag and Merc are for a older generation but I feel like this can be a opportunity to own my dream cars now then later. I always wanted the W126 coupe or E24 M6 or 635 as my future classic car.
Now my question is would it be worth it to have my car repaired and then sell it or is it even possible to sell a car with a busted tranny? As you can see my options of cars are all under 10k since I assume if i sold this car it wouldn't be worth much. Or fix it up and keep on driving it. My 2007 328xi E90 has 677** miles on her and had oil changes every 3-4000 miles since my ownership 2 years ago with 52k. My car had been really reliable up until this month where I had to replace new shocks and tires. Im still gobsmacked on how my tranny failed especially at such low miles and after all how anal I'm when it comes to wearing out components faster. In the back of my head I'm still hoping its a simple fix but the first BMW specialist said I may need a new tranny it leaves a chilling feeling in the back of my spine. Im sorry if I ranted too much but here is the end of my tale.
