Pioneer Apple Carplay?

samedi 31 janvier 2015

Anyone know of or have tried installing the aftermarket "Pioneer" Apple Carplay interfaces into the X3? They look sharp but have no idea if they would fit etc.... ?

Anniversary gift for my nurse wife...

So my wife is a nurse looking for a water resistant watch that she can wear while working (lots of hand washing, sanitizer, etc). I want her to have something nice and good quality that will last. Have gone through a few cheap ones with no luck. Anyone have any suggestions? Not looking to spend thousands of dollars but a few hundred isn't out of the question. I am willing to explore options so recommend away!

Reputation points system broken?

The Reputation points won't accumulate (well it did before but somehow it stopped for my account)... Anyone else having the same problem?

Antifreeze low?

The car told me today my antifreeze was low. I topped it off, it needed about a pint. My X3 has ~33,000 miles. Would this be normal?

Trading iPhone 6 for iPhone 5s. As simple as swapping sim cards?

I have an AT&T-locked iPhone 6 that I will be trading with a neighbor who has an AT&T-locked iPhone 5s.

Not sure we can do this by ourselves, or if we need to go into an AT&T retail store to have done. Anyone know?

I'm wondering if it's as simple as backing up our phones, swapping sim cards, restoring our phones from the backup, turn on and use.

Or

If we then need to go to an AT&T store and active the sim card to the new phone?

The Democratic Presidential Candidate Debates May Well Be an Interview

vendredi 30 janvier 2015

Hillary Clinton has yet to announce that she will run for President. I don't see why she should or would so long as other Democrats, Dems who practically speaking have sufficient national recognition to challenge Ms. Clinton, don't announce.

And that's the ting. At the moment, it really doesn't matter what other Dem announces; none of them right now have a snowball's chance in hell of defeating her for the nomination.

So, if Ms. Clinton does finally announce she's running for the job, what will the Democratic debates be like?

All the best.

BMW Admits Demand for BMW M7, Still Denies Working on It

Quote:

In a recent interview with Autoblog, Carsten Pries, the BMW M Product Chief admitted that he received e-mails from customers with the rendering of the future BMW 7 Series with four tailpipes at the back, pointing to an M version, the M7 to be more precise.

The M division would also love to get a chance at challenging the aforementioned super-fast limousines and show them how it’s done but the truth of the matter is, resources are limited.

“We always have more ideas than resources,” said Pries adding that the brand needs to, “stay focused and prioritize.”

Another issue is that even though e-mail have been sent and received, consequently taken into consideration, the demand has to be big enough to justify a possible investment into a proper M car.

Otherwise, the company could be building a car that would eventually flop when it goes into production and that’s a chance BMW isn’t willing to take at the moment.

It’s rather interesting too since they did appreciate that cars like the 2 Series Active Tourer or the 3 Series GT are worth the investment. And the sales numbers seem to agree, the 2er reaching more households worldwide than previously anticipated.

How would an M7 look like?

If BMW would release the M7 this time around, it would use the G10/G11 chassis with some improvements and the updated S63 engine in the X5 and X6 M models.

That means it would weigh around 1,700-1,800 kg (3,747 lbs to 3,968 lbs) thanks to extensive CFRP, aluminum and magnesium usage and would have 575 HP and 750 Nm (553 lb-ft) of torque at its disposal.

It would probably also be hooked up to the 8-speed ZF gearbox on the SUVs since the 7-speed DCT made by Getrag used in the M5/M6 and M3/M4 models is limited to 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) of torque.

An M Performance car would also do the trick, like the rumored M770i model that has been going around for quite some time. However, in this case, it’s hard to imagine what engine could be used to kick things off. Most likely, it could be an improved version of the 4.4-liter V8 on the 750i models we have today.

That would make such a car close to what Alpina is offering in the shape of the B7 Biturbo that has 540 HP and 730 Nm (538 lb-ft) of torque.

Need M3 replacement advice

And no, it won't be an M4. I figure this forum will have the best group of people with experience in other high performance cars.

Short version: I went truck shopping in December and bought a Raptor. My M3 warranty was close to expiring and I was dealing with body shop issues that were taking up too much time. BMW made me a ridiculous low ball offer for the trade in. Ford offered me a reasonable value so I traded it. Now it's been a month. I need another fast car. Keeping the truck, I need that too.

It will be a DD in Nashville pothole city driving with occasional highway trips and the very occasional track (Bowling Green) or mountain road event. The M4 would be the most ideal car but I am taking a BMW vacation. I also prefer to buy a car 1-2 years old. So it has to be something I can get a good deal on. In 2 years, whatever I buy will be gone in favor of the NSX.

Budget: $50-90k. Preferably 4 seats so my boy can tag along.

Contenders:

1. Maserati GT MC. Pro: Beautiful car. Powerful. Wow factor. I can get a good deal on one I'm sure. Con: they are heavy and not really designed to keep up with the M3. Another Pro: Italian sound.

2. Jaguar (XKR?). I don't know much about Jags. I'd want the race version I guess. Not too many close by I can look at. I suspect, like the Maserati, they are not that great for flinging around a road course. But, I'm sure I can get a great deal on one.

3. Porsche. Pro: there are tons of them around. Con: there are tons of them around. And, truthfully, I've never pictured myself in one. Too many 65 year old ladies drive them around here. And I don't think the GT3 is in my budget.

4. Lexus RC-F. Pro: it's Lexus luxury and supposedly as good as the M3. Con: Not much exterior wow factor and I can't get a used one so big financial hit.

5. Nissan GT-R. Pro: fast. Con: I have yet to meet someone who would recommend it as a DD on city streets.

Can anyone suggest cars that I haven't considered? Corvette is out -- wife hates them and it's only 2 seats. Viper is out for the same reason.

I really want the Maserati so I can have the experience of owning one. Perhaps I should have titled this: Are Maseratis any good on the track?

Thanks guys

"Munich.

As the leading manufacturer in the networking of driver, vehicle and the surrounding environment, the BMW Group is increasing the security of data transmission in its vehicles. This is the company’s response to reports from the German Automobile Association (ADAC). The motorist’s association had identified a potential security gap when data is transmitted. S.F. public defender detained outside court; office outraged

By Vivian Ho Updated 5:44 pm, Wednesday, January 28, 2015

A San Francisco deputy public defender was handcuffed and arrested at the Hall of Justice after she objected to city police officers questioning her client outside a courtroom, an incident that her office called outrageous and police officials defended as appropriate.

The Tuesday afternoon arrest of attorney Jami Tillotson as she denied police officers’ attempts to take photos of her client without explanation raised questions about police intimidation and harassment, Public Defender Jeff Adachi said at a Wednesday news conference................

2016 X3 release

jeudi 29 janvier 2015

Does anyone know when the release date is as well as updates?

Road and Track: First Drive: 2017 Jaguar XE

Quote:

'The 3 Series we've missed is back, but it has a British accent and a supercharged six.'

Most groups of vehicles are lucky enough to contain one car that's so far ahead of every other that it defines the class. The Germans are perhaps better than we are at calling out the obvious—what we call "small hatchbacks," they more simply call the Golfklasse, or "Golf Class," named after the Volkswagen Golf.

We don't have a name for the class of cars that the BMW 3-Series invented. "Compact, premium, predominantly rear-drive sedans with luxurious appointments and sporting pretense" doesn't exactly flow off the tongue. But we know this group of cars well. It contains the Audi A4, BMW 3 Series, Cadillac ATS, Infiniti Q60, Lexus IS, and Mercedes C-Class.

And now, the Jaguar XE. It'll be about a year before this sedan makes its way onto our roads, which is convenient. It gives you plenty of time to finish out the lease on your current car and start saving money for a down payment on an XE.

It's been a long time since a car so unceremoniously tromped the competition in driving dynamics the way the 3 Series used to do, but the Jaguar XE does just that. The reigning driver's-car champs—Cadillac ATS and Lexus IS 350 F Sport—are in big trouble when the Jaguar arrives.

But we're getting ahead of ourselves.

The Jaguar XE is an all-new, aluminum-chassis sedan. The 3.0-liter supercharged V6 engine, the only one available at launch, carries over from the brand's other cars, but the rest of the five-seater is new. It is, in every external measure, within two inches of the current 3 Series. Importantly, it's 1.5 inches wider and 0.6 inch lower, and as a result, it looks far more sporting on the road.

The aluminum construction doesn't seem to actually save any weight. Jaguar claims a base curb weight of 3671 pounds in Euro trim, which means we can likely expect the rear-drive sedan to weigh 3750 pounds by the time it arrives here. That's a good 150 pounds more than the steel 3 Series. Though the XE is dimensionally similar outside, it feels a half-size smaller inside, especially in the back seat.

This isn't necessarily a bad thing, since the 3 Series has gotten rather large. The XE's front seats are wonderfully comfortable; the rears are somewhat narrow, thanks to substantial bolstering that pushes you toward the center. Legroom is at a slight premium back there, and there's enough headroom only for about a six-footer. The trunk is slightly smaller than a 3 Series's, but to complain about any of these things is to forget that this is the compact luxury class. The Jag is the right size, inside and out.

The rear-drive XE will go on sale in the spring of 2016 with that supercharged 340-hp V6 mated to a ZF eight-speed automatic transmission. Shortly thereafter, a diesel option will be added—a 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 180 hp. By the end of the year, we should also see a 2.0-liter turbo gas four based on the same new "Ingenium" design as the diesel. All engines will be available with all-wheel drive as an option—and Jaguar promises that a manual transmission will be available on the 2.0-liter gas rear-drive model. More on that later.

We drove a prototype XE with both the diesel and the V6. And while this new, in-house diesel is very good, we'll concentrate on the model with six spark plugs. Our test car was fitted with adaptive dampers and 19-inch wheels wearing Dunlop Sport Maxx RT tires developed specially for the XE.

The XE uses double-wishbone front suspension and JLR's "Integral Link" rear suspension, which is essentially a multilink setup that decouples vertical and longitudinal forces. According to Jaguar, this allows the use of softer bushings for the vertical plane (for a smoother ride) and harder bushings elsewhere for better wheel control—and therefore, handling.

Whatever Jaguar's done, it works like a charm. The XE continues Jaguar's tradition of impeccable ride quality combined with excellent body control in corners. The XE bombs down lumpy, twisty back roads at felony speeds without ever losing its composure or molesting its bump stops.

Here's the best part: It's not just capable, it's interactive and fun, too. Jaguar's first use of electric power-steering assist (EPAS) is a slam-dunk. The company claims that it remained with hydraulic steering until it decided that EPAS technology, which it's been working on since 2008, actually provides "better on-center feel and linearity" than hydraulic steering.

Bullshit.

Not compared with Jaguar's own hydraulic steering, perhaps, but that was an outlier. Compared with most every other EPAS setup on the road, the XE's steering is natural and talkative and, therefore, a huge relief. It might not be quite as good as the old hydro setup, but I'll say one thing: If electric power steering had started out this good, you wouldn't have heard us complain about it, ad nauseam, for the past few years. Kudos to Jag for not implementing EPAS until it was good enough.

And bravo to the engineers for making a modern car that's so enjoyable to drive. The ZF-sourced eight-speed automatic is, as always, absolutely transparent in its operation, giving you exactly the gear you want, when you want it, without you ever feeling a shift. The supercharged six is far more refined in this application than elsewhere, and its immediate power delivery is a welcome reminder of how laggy most turbo engines are.

Is the XE perfect? Of course not—there is no such thing. First, there's the caveat of Jaguar's legendary reliability history. We experienced no problems with the XE, and the build quality of our preproduction prototype test cars was excellent, though both cars had rattles coming from their driver's-side door seal and a whistle from air passing over the passenger mirror. These are minor issues—the fit and finish was flawless; let's hope this remains true of the production cars.

Second, JLR's new touchscreen navigation and infotainment system is far more colorful and somewhat quicker than the outgoing disaster, but it's still difficult to use and painfully slow. It lacks radio presets, requires far too many cumbersome presses to do simple tasks, and the navigation-map zoom is awfully slow.

And third: Jaguar USA's product planners need to shift gears, quickly, before our car goes into production. At the moment, the manual transmission is scheduled to appear only on base (rear-drive, four-cylinder) models. It appears JLR still thinks it's 1992, where college professors buy their Toyota Tercels with manuals to save a couple bucks on purchase and fuel.

If any models should carry a stick, it's the supercharged V6 and the turbodiesel. Manuals are bought only by enthusiasts these days—not collegiate cheapos. Furthermore, the V6 manual powertrain has already been federalized (it's in the 2016 F-type, which we drove but can't tell you about yet), and it is the proper halo car to suck enthusiasts into Jaguar showrooms.

For what purpose, that halo? Whether they buy a manual or sell their soul and grab an automatic, once they drive an XE, it's game over for anything else in the class. You've been warned—start saving now.

M Performance Decked-out X3 Phtoos!

".......This BMW X3 xDrive35i gets a royal treatment with BMW M Performance Parts. The X3 SUV was equipped with a new black kidney grille with M stripes, a carbon fiber roof spoiler and M Performance wheels. A wrap was also applied on the roof to give the car a “carbon fiber look.” But the dealership has not stopped here. They borrowed an ALPINA front splitter and installed it on the X3 for a more aggressive look. Furthermore, the Abu Dhabi folks worked with Kelleners Sport to install a new exhaust system with four tailpipes, which makes the SUV look like an M car.

CHRIS HARRIS ON CARS - Cars of 2014

Great video once again by Mr. Harris!:happyanim: Well done sir!

Advice on salary negotiation

Long story short, my company is relocating to another state (halfway across the US), was asked to move with a promotion and a raise of 10%. Asked 25% expecting a counter of 15% or 20%, if lucky. Was told 10% is it and not negotiable. 10% puts me at not-too-bad, not-too-good range.

Am I done negotiating?

If you could build a detached garage, how would you design it?

Within reason...you know, like a $30K budget. Nothing extravagant.

Would you make it a 1.5 storey so you could utilize the top as storage - if so, would you put in stairs to get the stuff up there, or a pulley system to conserve space?

Assume it is a two car garage.

What other features would you include?

Recommendations on dimensions? I figure I'd want something with enough space to get a boat in one day (even though I hate boats and they are a money pit).

Has there been anything you did wrong and learned from that you care to share so I don't make the same mistake? Or that you wish you could change in your current garage?

Classic BMW E9 CS Body Fitted Over E39 M5 Drivetrain

Awesome build from Germany. E9 CS body mated with E39 M5 drivetrain (S62, 6MT, etc.), complete with the contemporary interior (Nav) of the E39 M5 and technology bits (ABS, air bags), all functional.

I've always wondered what it would take to restore a classic BMW using a hybrid of a more modern drivetrain, interior trims, and technology.

What a truly beautiful build.

Quote:

Gargantuan Resto-Mod Project: Classic BMW E9 CS Body Fitted Over E39 M5 Drivetrain

Everyone is going to have a differing opinion on what they would have done different to individualize this BMW CS/M5 resto mod build by MKO GmbH to their own personal taste, but surely all those vested in the dialog will have to agree that the overall end result is absolutely lethal. In a good way. Sure, some would have opted to leave the original vintage interior in it, and/or have chosen more sedate period correct looking wheels, however it might help to know some vital facts before drawing your own conclusion…

You see, what we have here is an original early 70′s BMW CS body that was crafted over an existing E39 M5 chassis and drivetrain, compete with 6 speed manual, so this was not exactly “just” an engine swap situation we got going here.

All of the modern car’s electronics, including ABS, sat nav, air bags and climate control appear to have had to be taken into consideration and incorporated into the build, and let’s also not overlook the fact that the rims had to remain 18″ to fit over the large brakes.

So, other than possibly having kept the upper portion of the vintage dash intact, perhaps this was the only way to craft this car while retaining it’s factory OEM vibe.

As the build details start mounting while we take those factors into consideration, maybe you will agree that the later car’s quad tip exhaust and rims were best left fitted to suggest that this isn’t just any ordinary 3.0 CS resto mod, but rather an M5 with a vintage body placed over it.

Our jury has deliberated and our own personal verdict has been reached, but we want to know how would you have built it different with all of the aforementioned information now to ponder? Share your thoughts in the “Comments” section below…

Someone keeps breaking my rear windshield. What can i do to catch this guy????

Ok so heres the deal, some asshole keeps smashing in my rear windshield! Twice this week and five times total in the span of several years. He just happens to be fixated on my car for some unknown reason. I do have security cameras in front of my house but sometimes i have to park further away from the house( nyc is tough to find parking) and i have not been able to catch him on any cameras. Now the crazy thing is that he does this to other cars as well but has been doing it to mine in particular this past week. I just fixed it and he smashed it again the next day. What can i do to catch him in the act because he obviously does it either in te early morning hours or in todays after 7am. This has royally pissed me off because calling the cops is basically useless. I called them for the first two and they were unable to catch anyone. There is another crazy twist in this whole fiasco which is i kind of have an idea of who it might be. Several reasons to believe it is this certain guy is that 1) i hang out late and when i come home in the early morning hours 2am or 3am i will see this "guy" on my block when he does not live on my block. 2) my neighbor, who also had his window smashed twice told me he once encoubtered a guy outside his house once late at night fiddling with tools and my neigjbor shouted hey what are you doing on my lawn with those tools and he said with a straight face " i use these tools to break into cars" and then he walked away casually as if that was normal. When i told him to describe to me this guy who said this, he fit the description to a tee! Bald white male in his late 40s and heavy set. He usually goes around on a bike in our neighborhood. I even have a rough idea where he lives because i was born and raised in this town and i have seen this guy around for the past 15 years here and there. The problem is that i have no visible evidence on record of him doing it but me and my neighbor put two and teo together and had an A-ha! moment when we figured it was probably this douche doing this. I also afraid if we decide to do somethibg he may come retaliate with something violent. I need some way to catch him on video doing this. Maybe someone knows of a good blackboz that can record stuff all night long and can be put inside the car? I am adding window insurance now and all that but it is annoying coming out of my house to find glass shattered all up in the car.

I have to say this...

This car is fakin awsome. Coming from F11, I cannot believe how good it feels. I even have the weakest engine, additionally stripped for Belgium, 136 HP. You just cannot put it down.

can't get driver assistance plus and cold weather package

that just seems silly! so what is it the heated steering wheel that isn't compatible?

I am guessing its actually the headlight washers, but then why not take that out of the package? and why can all other BMWs have both?

The one feature I wanted for the X4 was the braking assistance because my wife is horrible at rear ending people at low speeds (twice in the last 2 years she has hit someone while in a turn, they start to go so she looks to her left at oncoming traffic while inching forward just to realize the person in front of her didn't actually go, and BAM). Yes its her fault but we also have some really bad drivers in the Chicago area (I was in the car for one of the accidents and the person had no reason to stop, it was a PRIUS!)

Increased Battery Discharge - cable

Hi Guys,

My battery died just before christmas (3 days outside of warranty GRRR!). I got the battery replaced with an OEM AGM one just after xmas, but now i'm getting the '"Increased Battery Discharge" message.

It only seems to happen if i don't drive the car for a couple of days. Other than that the car is driving like a dream.

Doing a bit of digging on various forums, it seems that the IBS sensors on these cars are prone to breaking. One fix is to simply remove the cable that provides the car with this information.

So, i had a look around at the weekend and found this cable. Is this the sensor cable or is this something else? I unplugged it and started the car up, all seemed ok.

Im from South Africa and an absolute BMW Fanatic. Strongly considering going for the Nurburgring 24 hour this year, would like to get feedback in terms of how I should go about it. Huge wave of X3 robberies in Brussels

A friend of mine got his X3 totally messed up twice in two months! They take everything from central console in 2 min max, police is useless as usual. No wonder they chose Belgium for this enterprise.

Fitting 369m rims

Hi, if I swap out my 368m 18" for a set of 369m 19" (UK staggered), is there any physical or other settings adjustment to make other than a tps reset?

Cheers Max

Surprised nobody has mentioned Microsoft's augmented reality prototype

Hololens! This thing look friggen awesome! The possible applications are much bigger than mobile devices. It's all Tony Stark...except having to wear the dorky headset. This'll revolutionize porn!

VDC - SE v M-Sport

Simple question really, are the springs different?

Does the M-Sport have sports suspension with VDC and the SE have standard suspension with VDC? Or is it the same spec springs for all models with VDC.

Looking at the 35d in particular.

What's the weirdest thing you've done...

What's the weirdest thing you've done to either avoid an unpleasant situation beyond your control, or just plain out of boredom?

Mine right now? Apparently there's some tenancy issue with my next-door neighbor, so the cops and the landlord are outside my door. So, since I'm bored with my MP3 collection, plus I don't know what I feel like to listening to enough to use Pandora... How am I drowning it out? After clicking through YouTube, what have I found oddly catchy enough to retain my sanity? Not just chiptunes (I don't even listen to that at all), not just Arabic (keep in mind I'm White and Asian)... BOTH!

Replacement Straps

jeudi 22 janvier 2015

I'm looking to replace the strap on one of my Citizen watches. Does anyone know of any sites or stores that carry a large variety of straps? Reason I'm replacing is because I do not like the the fold over clasp that it comes with. I'd like to change it to a buckle clasp.

Just wondering because I need a full sized SUV and don't want another GL450. I love the X5 but it's just two small for 3 boys and two large dogs.

1 series e30 throwback

Not sure if it has been discussed...

I think if BMW did a throwback 1 series styled to look like the e30 of old like they did with the mustang it would sell like hot cakes...!

'No Signal' error

I was driving along today when my ipod lost connection, music stopped and the centre screen went black with the message 'NO SIGNAL' in orange in the centre. I tried changing to the radio, satnav and even the menu screen and nothing would work - the no signal screen remained. After a couple of minutes there was a beep and everything went back to normal, any ideas or is it just the electrical gremlins playing around?

Did you guys see this yet?

Hey! Just found this guys really wierd rendering of a BMW M9/i8S! Thought I'd share:

Fed-mandated black boxes can come to cars

Due to rapid increase of vehicle crashes and accidents, all new cars, light trucks, vans and SUVs sold in the United States must be equipped with an event data recorder. Apparently, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is now free to go ahead with a proposed mandate that would put black boxes like airline event data recorders into every United States car. But privacy worries have gotten the hackles up of some.

MB C300 Sport Lease Question

mercredi 21 janvier 2015

If anyone is in the lease market for a 2015 C300, would you please let me know if this is a good lease quote? My brother would like to know if he's getting a good deal. I don't know much about leases or residuals so any input would be helpful. Thanks!

$3,000 down $333.25 per month

residual is $35k

Help me decide on a watch [TAG Heuer, Breitling]

So I am considering investing in a nice watch in the near future. Finally completed grad school and have a good income so I want to reward myself with something I can appreciate for a while.

I am primarily between TAGs and Breitling. I have lusted after TAGs for a while, but always considered them far out of my price range. When deciding on spending a couple thousand I realized for a few hundred more I could get a Breitling, which I think for the fit and finish alone is a reason to spend a few extra hundred. Only looking at automatics and I've tried them on but haven't been able to narrow it down any more.

I am looking for something versatile where I can switch up the band and have it be appropriate for most all occasions. Here's what I like:

TAG Heuer Carrera Twin Time

I like it because it's attractive but not in your face or pretentious. But I'm afraid I may get bored of it after a while.

TAG Heuer Carrera Heritage

A bit more attractive, less boring than the twin time. I love the textured dial and blued steel numbers. But when I tried it on I wasn't dying to have it.

TAG Heuer Aquaracer

Breitling Colt Automatic White or Navy

Such a quality time piece. The name says it all and it's beautifully constructed, solid, and weighty. I just don't want to come across as screaming for attention or douchy.

What do you guys think?
